Christmas 14 Allergen Free Cake

No one should have to miss out on cake at Christmas, especially not when it is chocolate flavoured!  This cake is free from all 14 recognised allergens, is totally vegan and even healthier than a 'normal' cake.

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 20 minutes

Total time: 25 minutes


  • 3 bananas, mashed

  • 100ml olive oil

  • 150ml honey or vegan sweetener such as maple syrup

  • 250g gluten free self-raising flour

  • 1 tsp xanthum gum 

  • 15g cocoa powder

  • orange curd (see orange muffin recipe for details)


  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.

  2. Line 2 7" baking tins with greaseproof paper.

  3. In a bowl combine mashed bananas with the oil and sweetener.

  4. Add in the flour and xanthum gum.

  5. Sift in the cacoa powder and mix well.

  6. Pour the mixture into 2 tins evenly.

  7. Bake for 20 minutes, may take slightly longer, depending on your oven.

  8. Allow to cool.

  9. Spread 2 tbsp of orange curd on the top of one of the cakes, place the other cake on top.

  10. Spread more orange curd over the top or sprinkle icing sugar on the very top instead.

  11. Enjoy!
