Chickpea & Orange Blondies with no peanut butter

I created a mission for myself to create a chickpea blondie recipe with no peanut butter!

It was harder than I expected, but I hope you like these.  Chickpeas are a great source of fibre and proteins, making them a super ingredient for something indulgent like a blondie! The orange flavouring makes these like nothing else.

Makes 9 or 18 small

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 25 minutes

Total time: 30 minutes


  • 1 can chickpeas, drained (approx 240g)

  • 70g pitted dates

  • 100g honey

  • 2 tbsp orange juice

  • Zest of 1/2 orange

  • 30g gluten free flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • desired amount of chocolate chips


  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees C or 160 degrees fan, gas mark 3.

  2. Line a 9cm square baking tin with greaseproof paper.

  3. In a food processor blend the chickpeas.

  4. Add in the dates and pulse.

  5. Whilst the food processor is blending, add in the honey and orange juice.

  6. In a separate bowl mix the gluten free flour and zest with your fingers. 

  7. Add in the baking powder and then mix into the blender.

  8. Pulse until it becomes a thick batter.

  9. If it s runny, add more flour.

  10. Pour into the baking tin and top with chocolate chips.

  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes.

  12. Allow to cool and then slice into squares.
